Eddie & Phil take Blackpool!
We paid in advance for the train and hotel and Madame Tussauds as it was cheaper to do so online beforehand.
We left Selby on the Tuesday and got the train to Leeds; from there we boarded another train which would arrive at Blackpool North in just over two hours. The journey was pretty boring but having someone else there to talk to made it go by a lot quicker. Once we arrived, we headed straight to the hotel to check in before we explored the area and got some lunch. We’d booked in for Madame Tussauds that same afternoon so after wandering around for a while we went to pose with some wax celebrities. I’ll be honest; it was kind of creepy first, as you can tell by the pictures below, where I’m standing about a metre away from the figures, haha! As we made our way round though you just got used to them and desperately tried not to knock them over as you stood against them. The only downside was that the odd ones (such as Ant & Dec) were absolutely horrendous; they looked nothing like them! Oh and the temperature in the exhibit was ridiculously hot I’m genuinely surprised that the waxworks weren’t melting, because I certainly was. Nevertheless, the place was pretty decent was the price we paid and we had fun so I can’t complain. We spent the rest of the day just kind of wandering around the front and having a walk up the North pier and the Central pier. We spent the evening in Wetherspoons, on the front, having our tea, followed by a few drinks (for Philippa at least anyway ;) haha!) Blackpool after dark is pretty cool in all honesty, everything is lit up and it helped that there was the most gorgeous sunset over the beach and sea too. So after realising how overdressed we were for a meal out in Blackpool and spending way too much money on the arcades, we headed back to the hotel for the night.
It stopped raining but it was bloody freezing so we just went to this pub across the road from our hotel for some tea then had a stroll along the front, this time the other way, away from the amusements before heading back to hotel for an early night.
On our final day, Thursday, we hadn’t made any plans except our train at about 5pm, the weather was absolutely gorgeous so we went for a walk right up towards Pleasure Beach and the South pier then proceeded to walk along the sand so we could say we’d been on the beach although this proved to be quite difficult as we were both wearing canvas shoes and when it came to jumping over small, but quite deep streams in the sand, we ended up with soggy feet. Thankfully as I said, the weather was nice enough so we dried off quite quickly!
After having some dinner, we were desperately looking for things to do so we pretty much just walked along the front, both ways, before settling on a bench to collapse. We gave up searching for things to do and decided to collect our bags then head to the train station. As luck would have it, we had any time singles so we were able to get the earlier train back to Leeds, before making our way back to Selby.
All in all, the mini holiday was great and I’d like to say a special thanks to Philippa for a lovely time! I’m glad I went, but I don’t think I’d go to Blackpool again; as fun as it was for a couple of days, it’s not exactly my kind of place. It’s known for being boisterous, lively and tacky, but it was just a bit too tacky for me! Sorry Blackpool, haha! I love being by the sea but I’m definitely more suited to holidays down South which are more relaxed and tranquil. But hey, each to their own! I would recommend visiting so if you have any questions, please leave me a message and I’ll get back to you.
I would also just like to say a massive thank you to the Ibis Styles Hotel we stayed in; Lancashire was having a water crisis, meaning it was being advised not to consume tap water so the hotel provided us with bottled water, both nights we stayed. We were very impressed with the overall service and the helpfulness of the staff at the said hotel.
