Learning to relax: Me Time!

  • Face Mask
I am obsessed with face masks, probably to the point I use them too much! Whether it's a pore pull, a peel or a clay mask, I use them once or twice a week. Not everyone can afford to go to a specialist spa on a weekly basis, so for me, simply smearing a face mask on and lying on my bed, is ten minutes of heaven!

  • Reading
I love a good book, but believe it or not I often feel like I don't have time to read. The best thing about commuting for nearly 4 hours daily last year was that I got through a book a day. These days I see reading as more of a luxury, so whether it's curled up on the sofa or sitting out in the sun, a good book which keeps me hooked until the end is bliss.
  • Watching comedy TV shows
I don't think I could survive without TV shows like 'Friends', 'The Big Bang Theory' or 'The Mindy Project'. Whilst I'm well aware that people find different things funny and that's fine, I think everyone needs to discover a go-to show. I watch a few re-runs of 'Friends' every night before bed to lighten the mood after a rubbish day at work.
  • Shopping
I'm one of those weirdos who prefers to go shopping on my own rather than with friends. Whether it's fear of them being brutally honest about an outfit or because I don't want them to question how much I spend! I can spend a good 45 minutes in shops like Boots/Superdrug testing make-up on the backs of my hands until I run out of space. Similarly, I can spend an entire afternoon in the likes of Primark, Dorothy Perkins or New Look.
Whilst I don't necessarily advise weekly retail therapy unless you're earning millions, an occasional spree can allow you to enjoy yourself some me time!
  • Spend an hour on a hobby
Everyone should find something they enjoy doing and for me this may be spending an hour or two thinking up new blog posts, exercise or even something like painting by numbers (Yep, really!). Take some time to find a hobby that you can do on a weekly basis. Ideally I'd suggest something you can do daily but we all know what a struggle that can be sometimes!
  • Exercise
Let's be honest, exercise is a bitch; you feel great afterwards but shit me, during, not so much! To relax, I find either taking a walk in a quieter area without/with less traffic zooming around is idyllic. Failing that, yoga works wonders for me; I can be feeling anxious and paranoid as I begin but after a 40 minute session, I'm lying on the floor in Savasana pose letting all my worries drift away.
